Have you ever felt that while you are enjoying your movie or some other favorite series on your computer, you have got interruption in the sound, or your sound has completely gone off and you start getting the notification that says ‘No Audio Output Device is Installed’, and you may have got tensed. Most you have gone through this situation, but you do not have to worry at all. In this article, I have brought few troubleshooting steps that you can perform in the case whenever you get the sound problem in your computer. So, let’s look one by one into the troubleshooting steps that will help you in getting rid of the problem.

What Does ‘No Audio Output Device Installed’ Mean?

Before looking into the various troubleshooting steps, let’s look as what exactly it means by ‘no audio output device installed’. It means that there are fair chances that your windows is having problem in the identification of hardware or output device that is installed into your computer or the second chances are that the audio driver that is installed into your computer has been corrupted. When you click on the windows sound controller icon, it will show you to go for some troubleshooting steps. However, these troubleshooting steps are of no use because at the end it will simply show you that ‘Troubleshooting couldn’t identify any problem’ or will show you some random driver related problem. Overall, your problem is not going to be solved.

However, there is a good news for you that there can be only three possibilities that could have happen so that you are not getting the sound. These possibilities are:

1. Your driver may have corrupted (High Chances)
2. Your windows may have corrupted (Moderate Chances)
3. The sound jack of your computer or laptop or motherboard have become faulty (Least Chances)
To test which one of the above issue is creating the problem, there are different troubleshooting steps. Let’s look at those troubleshooting steps one by one.

Troubleshooting Steps For Sound Driver

There are around 95% chances that your sound driver might have been corrupted. Alternatively, in some cases there are chances that it has been broken. However, repairing the sound driver of your Windows is not a difficult task. It can be repaired in minutes if you have proper knowledge about your sound driver and its repairing procedure. So, let’s look into the troubleshooting steps for your sound driver, so that it can be repaired easily and you can get your sound back in your computer.

To do so, first you have to open the devise manage or computer. You can open it by right-clicking on the My Computer icon and clicking on the properties. Once open go for an analyzes in the tab which says “Sound, Video And Game Controller.” You will see the yellow or disabled sign on the driver icon or your driver is not listed there, or listed as an unidentified driver. If you see any of the aforementioned problems, then here is the solution to this problem.

If your driver is showing a yellow sign, then there are fair chances that your driver has got corrupted and requires a reinstallation. Therefore, to reinstall the driver, you first have to uninstall the current driver by right clicking on the driver followed by the click on uninstall. Once you do this, your current driver will be uninstalled, and now you can install a new one.

However, if the case with you is of the unidentified driver, then to fix this kind of problem, you may require to install the latest drivers for the audio driver that is attached to your computer. You can search for the right driver over the internet and from there you can download the latest version of the driver for your computer.

Troubleshooting Steps If Your Windows Is Corrupted

Now, if you have checked your driver and found everything perfect, then there are chances that your Windows have been corrupted and require an urgent repair. For that here are some of the possible solutions for which you can go for in such case.

  • You can go for restoring your windows. Doing so will change all the settings as same as the point when you have restored your windows.
  • Second option, for which you can go for is to repair your Windows. You can achieve this with the help of a bootable CD, format your system completely, and reinstall the fresh Windows so that you can get your drivers back. There are high chances that your sound will come back after performing this step.
  • The third option is to reinstall the windows without performing any check.

So, if you have done this and still haven’t got your sound back, then there are probability that your hardware may be faulty. Hence, let’s look at the troubleshooting steps on how you can fix your hardware.

Troubleshooting Steps If Your Hardware Has Become Faulty

If still your problem has not been solved, then it is the time to check the fault in your hardware. The bad news is that, if you are sure that it is your hardware problem, then it can only be fixed with the help of a Hardware Professional. In such case, it is advisable that without any delay, you take your PC or laptop to a profession hardware repair shop so that the hardware problem can be solved properly and with accurate procedure.
